Model United Nations at Westminster 2017
On Wednesday 29th March, three Year 11 boys had the privilege of going to the Houses of Parliament as they won a prize at the 2016 Model United Nations competition hosted by Calthorpe Park School.
"We were lucky enough to have a tour of Parliament and to go into the Queen's Chambers, the House of Lords and the House of Commons. We had the opportunity to meet our local MP Ranil Jayawardena and ask various questions about him and his political views. After this we returned to Westminster Hall and to the House of Commons to see Theresa May being bombarded with questions from the SNP and Labour parties about the triggering of Article 50 and watching the formalities required in order to firstly ask your question to the Prime Minister and then have it answered by her. We then finished the day with a lovely walk across Westminster Bridge before paying our respects to those who tragically died at the shootings which took place a week prior to our visit. Overall an historic day in politics as well as a brilliant experience which couldn't be passed up. Not too bad for three Somalians trying to get their points across at the UN!"
