Court Moor does Varsity
On Thursday 7th December 2017, Court Moor made new ground, by taking the first ever trip to Twickenham Stadium, to watch the annual Varsity rugby matches. The day got off to a rather soggy start, as 45 students and five staff were thoroughly soaked, when the heavens opened during our walk to the ground. However, this was not enough to dampen the spirits and the party got started as soon as we entered through the Lion’s Gate!
In the gap between the women’s and men’s matches, our Year 9 squad had been invited to take part in a special training session, led by England Youth coaches. This exciting session was hosted in the brand new TechZone, which was a purpose built facility in the shadow of the National stadium – a real treat for the players!
Afterwards it was all about the main event, as the Court Moor contingent took their seats, armed with enough nachos, donuts and confectionary to feed the residents of both Oxford and Cambridge! What followed was a terrific match, which developed into a real spectacle and was nip and tuck from start to finish. Cambridge eventually ran out winners by 20-10, but it really could have gone either way.
Thanks to all 45 youngsters who came along - they behaved impeccably and were a credit to the school! Huge thanks, also, to Mr Francis, Mr Higgs, Miss Robinson and Mrs Crabb, who gave up their afternoon to make the trip possible.
