Siemens STEM Show for Year 8 Girls

On Monday 16th January, engineering giant Siemens brought their new interactive stage show – See Women to Fleet. Their aim was to inspire girls to study more STEM subjects and tackle the UK’s shortage of women engineers, by dispelling their preconceptions about STEM careers being difficult, boring or just for the boys. Eleven of our year 8 girls were invited to the interactive show at St Nicholas’ School in Fleet with students from four other schools. The show featured lots of explosions, including Mrs Gregson getting her hands set on fire, and some fantastic contemporary female role models. They also explored modern women’s ground-breaking contributions to science, technology and engineering, and learnt that STEM is for everyone, both girls and boys; and that there are some amazing futures available to them if they choose it as a career.
