The Big Read

Year 7 parents/carers, to make you aware we are launching The Big Read initiative, which is a unique opportunity for the whole year group to read a book together. Every year 7 student will get a copy of Finding Wonder by Lauren St John during tutor time.

Our aims are as follows:
- Whole year group enjoyment of sharing a book that will generate interaction and thoughtful discussion. 
- Opportunity to take the book home and share it with people at home.
- Improve student reading skills.
- Expand student vocabulary.
- Learn something new.
- See the world from a different perspective and build empathy. 
- Spark a new interest or hobby. 
- The possibility of finding your all-time favourite book.

Students can get involved as follows:
- Read the book independently.
- Share the reading with others.
- You can read the book to your child.
- Students can discuss the book with their form and form tutor
- Students can talk to other teachers about the book.
- There will also be form time and house quizzes, and assemblies.

If you could please ensure your child takes care of the book, and at the end of the initiative they can either keep the book or return it to the library for future students to enjoy.
