  • Financial awareness: Using the ‘Real Game’ to explore jobs, leisure time and work life balance.
  • Employability skills

In Years 9-11, you learn about careers during ‘Get Set’ days. This includes the following:

  • Year 9 GCSE option talks, including possible career pathways
  • Core transferable skills (e.g. teamwork, communication and time management)
  • How and where to look for jobs
  • How to write a CV or application form
  • How to sell yourself at an interview and deal with questions
  • Opportunities to attend trips related to specific career paths (e.g. Stem) and life at university
  • College and apprenticeship provider presentations
  • University/higher education presentations
  • 1:1 careers interviews with a qualified careers advisor

There are lots of opportunities throughout your time at Court Moor to learn about different careers. Make sure you look out for regular information about Careers Café talks, and sign up using the links provided on Satchel One. The schedule for this academic year includes talks on becoming a solicitor, an architect, a paramedic and a personal trainer.

By the time you get to Year 11, you will need to be ready to apply for college or an apprenticeship. By that time you will have learnt about a wide variety of career paths, so if you ever want a reminder of what you have covered in your time at Court Moor, speak to Mr McEnroe or Mrs Mankoo.

If you want to do some research of your own, check out https://www.careerpilot.org.uk/ to find out information about career pathways, or use the Local Market Information page of this website (https://www.court-moor.hants.sch.uk/501/lmi-local-market-information) to find out about pay and whether or not particular jobs are likely to become more or less popular in the future.
