Last Monday the eSports club spent the day at Queen Mary's College, Basingstoke.

- Upon arrival students had an introduction to eSports careers, highlighting the transferable skills which are used in different industries and how viable they are in eSports
- The group experienced a live shoutcasted (commentated) game of Overwatch 2. This was produced and played by the QMC students. Students were able to see the setup of the streaming equipment and room used
- Students then split into two teams and played some practice games of Overwatch. The QMC students provided coaching to improve their skills, knowledge of the game, and how to communicate effectively with teams
- The two teams then played a series of coached games which were again shoutcasted by the QMC students producing the event

Students also had a presentation from lecturer Stuart Folkes, explaining how eSports utilises the platform of competitive games to create businesses and jobs due to the huge number of participants and spectators. He also highlighted QMC's successful eSports Single Award (equivalent to one A-level) course at QMC and explained the units taught. This course is fully subscribed each year and concentrates on essential skills and knowledge in the area, providing a solid foundation for students, including units on physical and mental health. Stuart explained that most people in the sector do seasonal work around the events which are streamed, produced and managed, therefore it can be a useful second job.

Thanks to QMC for hosting this fantastic event!
